Taking a detour

This morning I arrive in Trieste, the port in which I will board the cargo ship. Once I'm aboard, I will remain aboard for five nights. The prospect, though an extremely exciting one, gives me an inevitable sense of claustrophobia. and whether I like it or not, the next time I see civilisation will be when we arrive at Port Said.

As such, I decide to make the most of my time on dry land. The boat doesn't leave for at least another twenty-four hours, so I head straight to the bus station and buy a ticket to cross the border to Slovenia. An advantage of overland travel is that it affords the traveller flexibility. The decision to visit a new country just because I was in the area is one I couldn't have made in the sky.

And so I set out to this country I know nothing about with excitement. This is, after all, my last run-around before I have to leave the playground for good.
